Default Bam Transmission let go...help

My 98 A6Q made a loud clunk as I was pulling in the drive way and then then nothing. It would not move in D or R. It's obviously not an engine issue cause the engine runs great. It just won't move no matter what the RPM. Car has 110K on it and is in other wise good condition.

Sounds like the tranny let go, huh?

What will a rebuilt tranny run?

Would you replace it or scrap the car?

Default Factory rebuilt should cost about $4,500 parts alone. You could try to find a salvage unit.

If you scrap the car, you'll get nothing for it (literally, nothing). I'd try to find a working salvage transmission, and then sell it.

Where can you find a salvage one? A junk yard? I found several rebuilt ones on ebay for around $1500. Thoughts?

Default Call me crazy, but....

...why not diagnose the issue before shopping for parts?

... transmission and commit to get it fixed and running. If you buy the part, the local shop will do nothing but install it, with no warranty or assurances at all. All you want is a car that works. Even if that costs you more, it's well worth it.

I lived 6 months with a transmission nightmare. Put in two Audi remanufactured units, and still had issues.

Agree, I'm not buying any parts until its diagnosed. It's in the shop right now having been towed there on a flat bed. I'll know more soon. I am just mentally preparing myself for the bad news....$8500 car with $5000 a repair bill.
