Default Best source for RS4 clutch

Whats the best source for an RS4 clutch? Its going into a 2001 2.7t Googling gives me AWE, Vast and a couple other places. I don't need a flywheel and all I am doing is chipping the car. Any other reliable sources?

Thanks!

I installed an AWE stage 2 about 100k miles ago and it has been fine. Not sure if that's what you mean by an RS4 clutch. There was also some damage to my FW so I replaced it, too. The clutch travel and pressure are the same as oem. I've got 176k on the car.

A RS4 clutch means that its got the pressure plate from the Eurospec 2000-2002 RS4 which has a higher clamping pressure than the US spec pressure plate. This translates to more pressure against the clutch plate and better grip = less slip at higher torque values.

Here are the part numbers for each pressure plate.

078141123G (RS4)
078141123A (S4/A6)

Incidentially the clutch discs sold in the RS4 OEM kits are the same part number as their US counterpart kits, so the only difference is the pressure plate.

You need flywheel. When replacing disc, especially on higher mile vehicles, you must at least resurface the flywheel as you're running into high odds of burning the new plate when clamping it to old flywheel. This is due to the way disc and flywheel mate over time developing specific high/low points. Once you throw new clutch disc on top of old flywheel, they won't mate good at all initially resulting in very low holding power of lucthc disc. What happens next is you slip the clutch very easily and glaze the flywheel. Results is more $$$ to buy new flywheel and new clutch disc this time around.

We have exactly what you are looking for. RS4 Clutch Items - from 299 and up depending on what you want. You will need to resurface your fly wheel if you re-use yours. Or, if you'd like to pickup a whole kit with light weight flywheel we have those available to order as well. More are due in next week to fill orders.

The LWFW does allow the engine to rev a little faster than stock. Biggest difference is some harmonic vibration at low rpm in higher gears. I would consider replacing it since after looking at my old flywheel, which was coming apart, I did not see how it could be effectively re-surfaced. It's just extra insurance (and $$$) so you don't have to do the work a second time after ruining a new clutch.

Agreed, if you can squeeze it in your budget it is a big upgrade in terms of weight (obviously) but also many people complain that the OEM dual mass flywheel doesn't hold up to a terribly large amount of miles.
