Broken hood release cable
So went to go pop the hood and the cable apparently broke free from the latch mechanism.
I have searched the forums and all over, and haven't seen any specific write-ups for the C5 A6 with this issue other than reach up behind the radiator and try to pop it loose.
Anyone have any btdt with this? You *CANT* take the hood latch off like you can on the A4 because the 3rd nut is hidden behind the latch and you have no path from the underneath. So other options appear to be, pull driver's side wheel well cover, and try to go in from that side, (havent loosened this up yet to look), try reaching from the bottom, or sawing though the latch itself with a sawzall.
Thoughts or experience with this?

I just went through this.
After reading through many ideas on the forums, this is what I did. Remove the trim ring around the front grill. After looking at some photos online to see where the clips are located on the back of the grill, pop it out. Next, after studying the pics of the latch assembly from ECS tuning, I was able to slide a long, thin flathead screwdriver up to part of the latch that releases the catch. BOOM! Done. Just be very careful when you taking everything apart, you may want to put some masking tape aroung the grill to protect the paint. Cheers.
