Can you share your experience on K&N air filter? Would it help on a non-turbo model, A6 Avant?

I've had one since Jan when I got the car, but...
I've had k&n's in all my cars for the past 10+ years. No ill effects.
I have not measured for any hp/torque gains nor for air flow.

Would it be more cost effective because you only pay $10 for recharging it with ...
the assumption that you own your car long enough.
