Checking and cleaning spider hose
#11
I gave up on taking the spider hose off for today. I had enough trouble today with putting on the block off plates for the secondary air injection. Dropping tools behind the engine, including my magnet (which I wont get back unless my engine comes out again). What a nightmare, I think its easier to just take the engine out to put the block off plates on. seriously, what a fawwwwwwwwwwwwwwking nightmare, hands all cut up and everything.
Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do with the small vacuum hoses that go to the combi valves? Right now they are just hanging and I left them open (or should I plug them?). Now I finally can see the smoke coming from the corner of the passenger valve cover, its right under the corner (maybe its coming from the half moon?), i'll have another look tomorrow with the dentist type mirror that came with the new magnet I had to walk to the autoparts store to get, ughhh.
ohh and it was smoking pretty quick, i'm sure the actual engine block didn't have enough time to heat up to burn oil yet... could it be something with the exhaust manifold? i think its right under the valve covers right?

Sorry bring this out of dead. I have 2.7 allroad. When it gets subzero temperature and the car stays outside I get a white smoke until the car is fully warmed up. I have been told that it could be clogged up spider hose. My car has 176K miles and I got it when it had 25K. I know it's an original hose. I'm MN. What do you guys think?
Thanks

Thank you for the answer. Couple other questions. Is there a DIY or instructions on how to replace it? How much time should it take?
I have a good friend who owns a goodyear shop, but he and his mechanic couldn't find anything on how much time it should take.
Should I choose this PROJECT:B5 ? PROJECT:B5 - AUDI 2.7TT Spider Hose UPGRADE or https://www.europaparts.com/breather...8103235r.html?
Thanks

Tricky question because it's more like an estimate of time, nothing is cut and dry about servicing old high mile cars or even newer ones.
Don't know what kit is the best, the OEM one would probably fit better with less headaches.
