Coil pack recall?

Coil pack recall?
Flashing CEL on the drive-in this morning with loss of power and likely misfires. Had it towed to a local indy shop who says two coil packs are bad. Tech says there is a coil pack recall that affects all of the C5 engines except my 3.0 (on 2003 C5 Avant). Recommends replacing all coil packs and plugs.
A couple of questions:
-There is a huge delay in getting the coils because of the recall, which indicates to me they use the SAME part. How can a single part be recalled on some vehicles and not others???
-How difficult are these to do one's self? (I've done lots of DIY repairs on this vehicle, but never engine work) Of course I'd have to pay another $80 to have it towed back to my garage to do the work, so I'm not sure whether it's worthwhile.
Interested in your thoughts.
Many thanks!

Yours still might be on recall. I just bought my '03 A6 3.0L 2 months ago. I got a call from the previous owner last week telling me that there's a recall on my ignition coil. Don't know if that helps

Good news! Talked to the dealership and AoA is paying for these...but not the tow (really??).
The bad news: I'm having it towed for the second time today (2 x $85) and paying the indy shop for their diagnostics (not sure what that's going to be).
Now if AoA would pick up the tab, I would be one very happy customer. Johan, are you listening?

If you had it towed to the dealer and it was the coils, audi would pay for the coils. You don't have to wait for the recall if the coils fail now.
Who knows what coils the indy is gonna put in there....

Update: dealership replaced all six coils at no charge. The car runs great - and just in time since we got smacked with 7" of fresh snow.
If only I'd had it towed directly to the dealership, I've have saved ~$100 in towing and diagnostic work at the indy shop. Oh well...you live and you learn.
