Coolant Question
The coolant light on my 2.8 keeps coming on. I fill it up and two days later the lights comes back and the tank is almost empty. After I drive it and I take off the cap theres an eruption followed by smoke everyehere. Is this a leak even though there isnt any visible or is my CTS bad. Any help here Please.

If you are sure there's no leak (have you checked under the carpets)
the first thing that springs to mind is a head gasket failure, or cracked cylinder head. The best way to diagnose this is a leakdown test.
However, there are places it could be leaking. Have you looked under the car? Does it smell of antifreeze? The afterrun coolant pump is a favourite leak point.
BTW, every minute you drive the car in this state does potentially very expensive damage
Personally, I would have had it towed to a mechanic by now.

FWIW..you should never take the cap off when the engine/coolant is hot. Very..
dangerous. Anyways, are you getting any white smoke emanating from the tailpipe? Any coolant smell coming from the engine bay/under tha front of the car? The coolant doesn't just vanish, it has to go somewhere. Find out where it is going, and you will be on your way to solving the problem

Two common leak points: The easy one being the over pressure relief valve in the cap...
The OS one being the after run coolant pump. Either should show coolant droppings under the car.

I once went through all kinds of trouble with my Supra
First the radiator leaking, then the heater core, and all the time losing coolant slowly. Then one day I got to work and there was a geyser of water from the coolant reservoir. Had it towed to an engine specialist who found : a leaking head gasket, leading to erosion of the head and block each side of the gasket. The hot gases leak past the gasket and erode the metal. They had to straighten the head, build up the eroded material with TIG weld, then skim the block and head. The engine was only just saveable and if I'd driven for a few more days, it would not. This was not a cheap repair, obviously.
So from now on, I will treat any slow coolant losses with caution, and get a leakdown test ASAP, and would advise others to do the same.
