We ALL do that here.
If I decided to put a fishmouth grille on my C5, that would be lame, and that's what I'm talking about.

verb, -fit?ted or -fit, -fit?ting, noun, adjective
-verb (used with object)
1. to modify equipment (in airplanes, automobiles, a factory, etc.) that is already in service using parts developed or made available after the time of original manufacture.
If my car was a German domestic, it would have had city lights from the factory. The headlights in my car, when I bought it, had provisions for city lights from the factory, but none were installed. I merely added the feature, but by definition, it's not a retrofit, because the technology (if you want to call it that) was already available at the time of manufacture, but not installed for our market.
I don't understand why you're beating me up over this..

your additional equipment is by defenition, retro-fitted as it was fitted after manufacture. Even if it was an addition fitted by the dealer before sale then it would still be retro-fitted as it was not on the car as it left the factory. The fact most A6's have them as they are destined for markets where they are required - most of Europe, is not relecant as we are refering to your actual car. I think that in your instance, it is probably a worthwhile addition as we, in England, have them and use them when it seems that you do not need headlights. It is surprising that they are not included on the US spec cars?
Of course, we (the English) still live in the austerity of the post-war years so we all drive with just side-lights (as they are called here), we all say "How do you do", "Cheerio" and "Cheers mate" with a cockney accent all the time...... LOL.
PS I am not winding you up just my opinion.
