to a truck with large offroad tires...but it's not the tires because my other set of wheels makes the same noise...

additionally, I get thumping around 20 mph - which is getting worst...the car doesn't vibrate. The rims are straight and the tires are fairly new...the control arms do not have play in them...cv boots have been replace within the last 10,000 mi....

Could it be something with the axel, wheel bearings...any idea where I should start to look

55k miles now. Noisy particularly from the rear. Most noticible at around 40mph, then drops off until 65mph +, at which point the noise pitches upward, again. I have mounted Falken ZX-512s with about 10,000 mi now, and have been told after the fact they are junk tires for noise (should not have read that Consumers Union article, a couple years back). But I think I need to investigate. In any case, I am annoyed to find this issue on a car this class iwth only 55K miles.

The loud noise is from 20+ and the creaking is only at -10mph. Time to look into bearings...I might do both fronts as well as the CV boots, someday. :P
