This doesn't happen with other cars
Was walking up to my car in the parking lot last night and noticed a piece of paper stuck under the wiper. As I got closer, I saw it was torn from a spiral notebook; my pulse rate rose assuming some jerk left the obligatory note after smashing into my car. I walked around the car but saw no damage. I finally grabbed the note, and was happy to read "NICE CAR!!!" scrawled across it in big letters.

People never stopped to talk to me in parking lots... until I got the A6.
I like being a bit scary looking on the average, I am not a tough guy at all, I just don't like talking to "the average guy on the street" and the "scary" look kept most of them away... but now, even in my black leather treanchcoat and black stocking cap, my "toughest" looking getup, people still approach me at gas stations, grocery store parking lots,,, stoplights,,, and all of them with comments about how much they like the car.
Maybe people feel safer approaching someone who is smiling, and I haven't stopped smiling since I got this car.

Re: This doesn't happen with other cars
I had a brand new 2000 Mustang GT Convertible once. It was black with grey leather and had the flowmasters as well as some other modifications. I received the most complements from that car. It is a pretty neat experience when you have an eye catching car. People constantly come up to you in parking lots and complement you and girls want to ride in your car. Problem was....cops stare and pull you over alot too. I just bought my Audi A6 and really havent had a chance to drive it around much yet but I like the look on peoples faces when I tell them its an Audi. They look at you like "How the hell do you afford that?" Anyway, just thought I'd share my experiences with owning nice cars.

Funny that they ask how you afford it, most peoples ask me...
if Audi's still have transmission problems.
I'm sure the people complementing you on the A6 are from a different side of town than those digging the GT! Snob appeal...that's what I paid for.

I have the only A6 4.2...
...on the island of Hawaii. It's brilliant black on black, beautiful, and usually shiny clean.
People follow me (in their cars from the street) into parking lots to engage in conversations, the valets at the resort hotels treat it like a Ferrari (there are more Ferraris on this island than 4.2s), and it always turns heads because it's so damned different from the Lexota, BMW, MB fare so common around here.
No one has yet left a complimentary note on the windshield.
