Early impressions: '04 A6 2.7t S-line!
I just traded in my '02 A4 (3.0) for the '04 A6 2.7t S-line model. After a weekend of driving, here are some initial impressions from a newbie owner of an A6.
I've just driven around 300 miles in it, but this already
feels like an amazing car. The S-line features slightly
improved HP (265), but significantly improved torque
(285 ft-lb). The latter is really noticeable, when I compared
the S-line to the standard stock 2.7t. The extra torque
really makes the car come alive. Audi spec's the S-line model at 6.4 sec 0-60 mph, and I believe their numbers.
My car came with 235/40 18" tires (Continental Sporticontact 2s). Unfortunately, I had to immediately replace these with Blizzak 16" WS-50, since I live in MA.
Compared to the A4, my A6 feels substantially quieter and more solid. On the potential downside, I feel that the A4 gave me better road feel and the steering felt less power boosted at low speeds. Of course, I think the 18" tires will substantially improve the handling of the car, when I get these back on in the spring.
My A4 was a 6-speed and the S-line unfortunately does not come with a manual transmission. But, Audi seems to have improved its automatic transmission in the S-line, since the shifts seem smoother and less jerky, when compared to a stock 2.7t. Acceleration feels quite smooth, but I haven't really pushed the car hard yet (waiting for the break-in period before I put the car through its paces).
I'll post a longer report later, after I put on some more miles (and especially after I put the stock 18" tires back on the car in spring).

Interesting and thanks! Is "S-Line" a package on the sticker or designated as a "model"?
Any pricing information you feel comfortable posting would be helpful as the "S-Line" pricing is not yet available on AoA's useful and robust website. Thanks!
