Default Faulty Turn signal

Has anyone ever had to replace a turn signal switch? I just bought a 2000 A6 and the turn signal/high beams just died and but the cruise control still works. Looking through the other posts, I don't think it's the flasher relay since the hazards still work. Am I screwed and have to go to the dealer or is this something I can do?

FYI - The hazard relay is also the relay for turn signals.

Default That was a common failure in the older Audis...I wouldn't be suprised if yours is shot.

Replacing it is fairly straightforward: remove airbag, wheel, and column surround...and the combo switch should be right there.

Since you need to remove the airbag, I would strongly rec. that you refer to a repair manual before diving in. Hope that helps.

Default Just because the Hazards work, doesn't mean to say...

... that it's NOT the relay. There are two relays in the one unit and the problem seems to be that that turn relay contacts get dirty (whereas the hazards relay is fine due to lack of normal use).

Having said that, the fact that the high beams died as well would steer me to the stalk switch.

In any case, it might be worth checking/cleaning the turn relay contacts, doesn't take too long if you're reasonably handy...

relay R&R

Thanks everyone, I'll start small and try to avoid the air bag for as long as possible.
