Default fuel door sticks

Anyone have this problem and have a solution? (Other than an expensive trip to the dealer?)

Fuel door must be opened using the trigger behind the subwoofer panel inside the trunk. Problem occurs after electronic locking has been used (fuel door almost appears to be pushed in...although it's fine whenever I'm at the station and have opened it with the aforementioned trigger; i.e., it flops open and closed as it should).

Default You mean it is hard to open when the car has been locked? Or when all doors except

the driver's are still locked? Then it should be locked. Maybe I'm missing something.

Default example

Scenario: Out in the morning, unlock car, need gas. Gas door will not open although all other doors are unlocked (key or fob). Pop the gas door with the pull tab. Let door flap shut after gassing up; it opens and closes fine then, repeatedly. Lock the car again. The gas door's stuck again then, even after car is unloclked.

Default Here is a suggestion...

Obviously, the fuel locking mechanism sticks in the AM, but once it is freed up, it works. I would suggest that you get your hands on some good lubricant (not WD40), something that repels dirt. My dealer tech handed me a brand new can of some OEM stuff that works great!

Open your fuel door stand outside of the car, and lock the car. You should see the little pin stick out which locks the fuel door. Then lube the pin then unlock, push the pin in, lock, spray a bit more, etc. Keep manually pushing the pin back in until you get some lubricant in the mechanism that is sticking. At some point, it should free up to the point where the pin will move freely when you unlock.

If for some reason the pin moves properly when the door is open, look at the slot in the door to see if it got bent or there is another obstruction in the slot which would prevent the pin from moving freely.

Hope this helps!!!

Default Good suggestion! I used to have to fish for the same mechanism in older Jettas when panicked

owners would stop at the dealer on a Sunday when techs weren't there.
