Default Gas Gauge - Fuel Sender Update

Just to let you folks know, I took the advice of a poster on this forum to use Union 76 gas in my car. The result after 3 tankfulls is that I no longer have a gas gauge or fuel sender problem.
Like him I was using Chevron gas. I always thought gas was gas but there might be something to this. I will monitor and keep you all posted on this.

Default Re: Gas Gauge - Fuel Sender Update

I am in the LA area and have been using Chevron and having the gas gauge problems (stuck full/empty) for the first 6000 miles. These problems has since gone away with the first tank of Unocal gas. I am on my second tank and it seems the only remaining problem is 'stuck on empty' momentarily after fill-up. But it clears up after a minute or so. I hope this last glitch will be gone after a few more tanks.

Question: Does A6 have a 'split' fuel tank?

Default Re: Split Tank

I don't belive the tank is split. I Think it is a multi level tank which requires 3 different positions for the fuel senders. It's shape has to do with the Quattro Drive.

Default Just got the gauge problem

Hey all,

I just bought an A6 with 70k miles a 98 modle..
1)post any IMPORTANT info i should know about this car.
2) I live in kansas and 2 days after i got the car on the second fill up, the gauge problem appeared. I used Quick Trip gas 91 octane. what would i do to fix this is it only the gas i'm using or is it a defective part? is it the computer, is it the gauge...what is it. The trip computer telling me how many miles i have left to go before empty and the gauge it's self seem to be connected...so i can only assume it's the computer's fault. also is Union 76 the same as phillips 66 in other regions?
