Has anyone seen the spy shots of the new S4 in Automobile
#2
Or maybe a 2.9T, or a W8 varient, or a Cosworth enhanced 2.7T(like the RS4)...
Audi must love all the guess work that has been going on about the next S4. Seems like shoehorning the 4.2 into the nose of this car will make it really nose heavy...

don't think so. It was a spy shot of a finished car at Nurburgring for testing
I am not so sure the 8 is that much heavier than the 6. It really does depend on how they build it

sort of, not yet
See topic below which explains how BMW isn't making the M3 GTR yet and isn't making many when they do.
Oh, and it sucks anyway, it makes 350HP in street tune. This is less than the very similar M5 engine makes!
I personally would rather have standard M3.
I wouldn't think that Audi would be planning to shoehorn many more V8s into S4s than BMW does V8s into M3s. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek?cat_code=motorsp ortsnews&loc_code=index&content_code=09300665">htt p://www.autoweek.com/cat_content.mv?port_code=autoweek?cat_code=motorsp ortsnews&loc_code=index&content_code=0

Lots of sources including insiders with Audi connections have been saying V8...
One source said two engine configurations were being compared, one a V8.
Those pictures are rather old. I saw them a month or three ago. Print mags are slow to the newsstand, and tend to get spy pics from third parties (often phonies).

Saw a Passat wagon with the W8 engine...
yesterday at the San Jose Auto Show. It was a pretty loaded up version including 4motion. Had 4 small tailpipes under the rear bumper that looked very clean. I think it's rated at about 270 HP.
I'd be surprised to see any variant of that engine in the new S4. But, you never know. I think I'd like to see something like the RS4 engine in it.

BMW's reason (one of many) was that the development of the V6 had come to an end...
And that the only way to compete would be to start with the V8. Frankly, I'm surprised at this. I would have thought that their V6 had a bit more in it...or maybe it was easier to start with the V8 and beat the hell out of the Porsches. Not very gentlemenly but...hey its racing.
I heard that the V8 will be sold in quantities that we can count on two hands (of a few people) and that many will not be in street tune (track toys). Me thinks that the homologation rules need to be rechecked....I'm surprised Porsche hasn't stuck a V10 in a few 911's (I'm sure there will be a few supporters), and answer BMW's shot.
