filter can be used or if I should just buy a few at the dealer since I want to change the oil and filter a little more often than scheduled maintenance. It would not be done by Audi, hence the filter issue. Anyone have any experience with this. I own a 2000 4.2 sport.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: According to a recent study:
Mobile One oil filters are far and above better than any available in the aftermarket. Unfortunately, their range of model applications

Re: Bosch is the only aftermarket filter to use!
I would buy either Bosch or Kneckt here in England. I am considering using the standard oil filter, as per virtually all other VAG cars on my 2.8 A6.
The standard filter for this is one designed to last 10k+ miles although the thread looks identical to standard, it is just the filter body that is a larger diameter. The idea is to change the oil every 5-6k miles although with such a large sump it probably does not even need this. As for the V8, I have no experience but I would guess the standard filter will fit, the only other requirement for it to work safely is that the flow is in the same direction. All you have to do then is to buy loads of them mail-order, and change them often.

Bosch is a good filter; the USA filters are made by Champion Labs.
Bosch Premium & Standard filters sold in North America are made by Champion Labs in the U.S. for Bosch USA.

There are also German Bosch filters available in the U. S., mainly for European cars:

My understanding is that they are quite good.

Mann is excellent, it is an OEM filter for many Audis, Saab & others.
The Mann filters I get for my A6 and our Passat 1.8T are exactly the same as the Audi/ VW filter, they just cost less and have different paint/label on them.

Re: Has anyone tried a different aftermarket oil filter? I'm wondering if a NAPA or other replacemen
The only one I could find locally (southern Oregon) was a K&N oil filter for my 2001 2.8Q. It has been in use for several thousand miles and cost about $10. It seems fine. I am doing my own oil changes at 5k intervals and believe that with the more frequent draining (and filter replacement) just about any filter is fine.
