Default How hot is your 2.7T?

Howdy,

Recently I brought my car in for my 1yr/15k service. After I got my car back, I noticed the engine oil temperature gauge looked "different". Perhaps 25 degrees or higher after it is warmed up but I am not really sure.

So... It would be great if you can share your engine oil temperature in your car. FYI, each mark/division on the gauge is 25 degrees.

Here's some background info: I have a 6speed 2.7T. I live in the San Francisco area. The air temperature is around 80F +/- 15F in the last few days. It is about 225F on my car. I usually don't push my car very hard but it is fun whenever I do!

Default Usually stays around 200, even on hot days (>90F), with Mobil1 5W30...

Mabye they put 10W40 or something like it at your last service. It seemed to run hotter (more friction) on the original oil.

I think the gauges are accurate to +/-25 deg anyway.

Default Mine runs the same temps...

I also live in the Bay Area, and even with temps as high as 105 (last week in Marin County), my oil temp never went over 225. I drove to Seattle and back 2 weeks ago, and as long as I was not climbing a long mountain pass, the oil temp was very steady, even with temps around 100 on that trip.

My 2.7T seems the least effected by high outside temps, compared to my 2 previous Audis (4000SQ & A4Q).

BTW, I use Mobil 1 5W-30

Default Same experience as Chris...recent "hot" (for Seattle) spree of 80's saw my oil temp at a

consistant 225. Last week's lapping day (in the high 70s) oil temp got up to 250 on the track, but dropped to 225 during cool-down in the pits. Water temp never went over "straight-up" on the guage. I also run Mobil 1 5-30, and have noticed the oil temp consistantly cooler than the previous "dino" oil.

Default Mine sits around 225 and up to 250 when it is hot out...

Also, I would expect at least a 10% error allowance on accuracy of the guages and sensors.

FWIW, I'm running Mobil 5W-30 synthetic too.

Default Read my post above.

I noticed that when I topped up my oil when checking it after a 10-20 minute shutdown that it was actually overfilled. When I drove the car with the oil overfilled the oil temp was one to two lines hotter than before.

It's my undestanding that the fill line is the top of the cross hatching and you need to give it a long time to drain back before reading the level.

Default This is something I'm always checking on as well....

Mikey -
At first oil service @5000 miles (now have 8400) I changed w/Mobil 1 0-30W, and immediately leaving the dealer noticed my normal "225" was edging towards straight up. I checked level after a spirited 30min run, and I was at least a half quart down. I called the dealer and made them check that the empty containers were at the tech's area that changed the oil. They assured me they were used.

Since adding the additional oil, I'm running slightly above 225, and this weekend, on a round trip btwn White Plains and Sudbury MA, (with four full size adults and their stuff) I never went above 235 or 240, and that was when going up grade, which is the case in Central CT, approaching the MASS PIKE.

Conversely, my 99.5 A4 2.8QTipS w/33000 miles, has always registered 225 since new, using Mobil 1 15-30W from first fill forward.

Best Regards,

Rick Pardo

Default '00 2.7T 6sp, Bay Area - 225 almost always (more)

235 or so after a few minutes of boost (like going fast uphill on Hwy 17 or Rte 9). Royal Purple #21.
