how long will it last
Looking to see how many of you 2.7t owners are putting some real milage on your car. I have done so much to mine and love driving it everyday just wondering how long I might get it to last before it really gets bad. Keep in mind I have a warranty until 95k that covers almost everything. Could I expect to get 150k out of the car with out engine rebuild and turbos, tranny etc...
If I do not abuse it that is. Just some feed back please.

I take it one day at a time. Anything can fail at any moment, but I look at it like this...
...
(1) If your "stuff" (turbos transmission, etc.) gets past 20,000 miles, then you can probably rule out major defects that the car may have had when new.
(2) Turbos and transmissions seem to die very randomly. I think a transmission has a reasonable lifespan of 150,000 miles, and almost all will be done by 200,000. But before 100,000 the odds of losing it on any given day are very slim; and "flat" (meaning it's no more likely at 100,000 than it is a 20,000). ZF transmissions are darn good. Good enough for Mercedes.
(3) Turbos (unlike transmissions) are not doomed to die eventually (at least not sooner than the core engine). Older volvos and Mercedes have turbos that last as long as the basic engine. If your oiling system works, and all the turbo plumbing works, a turbo that lasts 30,000 miles should last 150,000 miles, as long as nothing changes. With these cars, I think the greatest risk of losing a turbo is a bad bypass valve or throttle body boot. Those things, I'm told, can cause an turbo to overspin.
I also like to think that these cars are worth a $6,000 repair in a 5 to 7 year period (in addition to the regular maintenance and routine repairs).

if you treat it nice, it'll treat you nice.. i've heard of turbo engines lasting longer than the
actual car itself..(body falls apart first)...like Potomac2.7T said..keep the plumbing in tip top shape and watch for loss of power due to TBB failures... then you should be able drive that thing for a long time.. I'm at 56,500 and i haven't seen anything...nothing on the service history either... she runs so soooo smooth!!! *knocking on my desk top*

Re: 73K and still running smooth, as I knock on wood.
What little things have you had to do? I had some things like, both tie-rod ends, cam seals leaking, I went ahead and did the timing belt, the water pump was leaking so I replaced, MAF went out and both by pass valves were leaking. Put new brakes all the way around and the belt tensioners were replaced. I think that was all I have done to repair it so far. sound out of the ordinary?
all done around 58 -65k
have 66 now

I'm at 80k with no real issues...
...cam seals at 77k, timing belt to be done in coming months if not sooner. I drive 25k miles a year (with very little stop and go), and expect to take to at least 150k, optimisticly 175k. I'll be shopping for an extended warranty soon.

Re: 73K and still running smooth, as I knock on wood.
Had to do the same as Coop19 (on my stock 2001 2.7T) except tie rods... and I didn't replace 'belt tensioners' (any thoughts on how you can tell a need for belt tensioners? maybe mechanic overlooked...). Bought at 66k and did the stupid thing of not getting it checked before buying, so got bit on those items. But expect that I'm solid for now... currently at 68.5k with check engine light that only goes on after a 50+ mile trip (looking to buy a VAG soon to investigate)
