Default I Want a Valet Key for 2003 A6 4.2 Sport

My old Audi A6 came with a valet key and it was very good for valet parking in bigger cities. (DA !)

New A6, no valet key but a plastic emergency key. I asked the dealer for a valet key, paid them $77 and they gave me another one of the plastic emergency keys, which of course, is highly fragile.

Can I get them to cut me a version of the old valet key?

Is there some magic way to ask or some secret handshake for these?

Thanks

Default Go back to the dealer and raise hell....bring a picture if you have to.

$77 for a piece of plastic is a joke.

Default Be grateful for the plastic key if you only (!) had to pay $77 (total) for it.......

After locking my keys in my car while windsurfing last fall (inadvertently closed rear hatch w/ doors locked), finally got around to ordering a spare (2d) valet key.

Paid $48.17 for key (which has to be ordered through dealer w/ VIN) and $90.00 for one hour shop time to program all of the keys. You can save the programming charge if you only want to be able to open the door; but to start the car the chip in the plastic key has to be programmed.

So, total of $138.17 for an extra key!!! Grrrr.

Default Did they program the car with it?

Your car has the immobilizer....you need to bring all keys into the dealer and have them all programmed....if you don't, the ones you don't bring in won't work anymore.

Of course, this is based on my experience with the A8, I'm assuming the A6 works the same way.

Default Re: Did they program the car with it?

The remote function on the key fobs had quit working. They said bring them all in, which I did and they gave me two new remotes, did the reporogramming and cut the keys. I asked for a valet key and they gave me the $77 plastic key.

My 2000 A6 had a proper valet key and that is what I desire.
