Default Immobilizer? re: Installing a remote starter

According to my paper A6 Bentley which covers 1998-2000, it says all cars covered by the manual have the ver 3 immobilizer installed.

According to my electronic A6 Bentley it was available beginning in model year 2001 from VIN 4B_1N008001. It was firstly available of the A8 and later on the A4.

Doing a search on here I have seen reference that it was an option on the A6 in 2000 and the vehicle may or may not have it.

Every remote starter dealer I have asked has consulted their installation manuals and they say it is in every (A8/A6/A4) Audi from 1998.

I am looking to install a remote starter and that is obviously one of the first issues I must address. So far I have gotten 4 different answers from 4 reliable? sources. I have a 1999 and would like to figure out if I have it or not.

Any ideas?

I have one in the truck which is a diesel, so for the Winter that's a no-brainer. The GF has one in her Caravan and again for Winter, it's nice. With this Winter and how many day's we had around 0deg, it was a real b___buster. I'd like one in the A6, but am weighing the cost and what it's going to take to get it done.

Sounds like you've got some con's to talk about.

Ask some of the guys that tech for Audi. They've seen plenty of no starts come in that required substancial reworking. The first thing they do is cut out the remote start system. Ask Carson or Joey...if you can find them.

I've thought about the complexity of the install. My Dodge has all mux'd switches and busses. They had to fool the remote module into thinking that it was analog to make it work. But, they knew what they were doing and hardly a problem in 6 years. One was a broken resistor lead whcih was part of the custom install and then having the button on the remote give out after like a billion pushes.

I've got a friend who's an Audi tech. I'll ask him what he's seen and his opinion of doing the install.

Default That's the way to go.

It boggles the mind how many people do something really stupid to their car and then post here afterward to ask with help on the clean up.
