I have read here that some of you have successfully convinced your dealer to adjust the computer to display a more accurate average miles per gallon. Mine is consistently displaying about 3 or 4 MPG higher than the actual average that I calculate by dividing the distance travelled by the amount of fuel consumed.

How did you get your service person to do this? When I asked them to investigate this, they did nothing and recorded "operates within recommended factory specs" on the service report. When I asked about it, he gave me a stupid response. Get this: The guy looked at the display and saw that it reported 20.7 MPG since the last reset. Since they consider that to be a reasonable mileage, they claim that nothing is wrong. I could not make him understand that when it is displaying 20.7, the actual mileage is closer to 17.

Mine's high by 1.5-2 mpg. My dealer told me that the accuracy of the fuel tank gauge could be adjusted, but not the mileage readout. I doubt the two are related. Said if can give him the procedure, he'd be happy to do it. There have been postings discussing this correction, but no one's yet mentioned a VAG code. Apparently there's no AoA service bulletin for this.

I agree with your idea that the inaccuracy is not related to the fuel gauge. I tried to find a service bulletin on tech.vw.com without success.
