Later model safety stats?

Later model safety stats?
I'm looking to upgrade from my 99 Avant. The safety stats that I can find become tremendously better going from C5 to C6. I'm in love with Avants, but the first C6 Avant didn't come out until 2006 which puts it in a price range that would be a stretch for me. Safety is a huge factor for me as I do a depreciation-inducingly long commute on a pretty crowded highway.
Does anyone know of a place that has any safety statistics on the 2004 C5 A6? The IIHS site says its data is for the 1998-2004 A6, but its tests were done on a 1999. I would assume the car improved in 5 years.

I doubt you will find it that specific or late model, but...
certainly try to get it as apples to apples as possible, particularly relative to side curtain or rear side airbags (depending on the car you are looking at). Even if you don't find an Avant if you find a sedan w/ similar motor and same airbag set up, figure it's probably reasonably comparable--same front clip and doors, same belts and tensioners, same interiors and padding, same steering rack, same general suspension, etc. Be careful though with comparisons to the front in a 4.2, since that is fairly different--motor, tranny, panels, length, etc.

Here's the Euro NCAP safety stats
These days the new cars are coming out and boasting that they got a 5-star ncap safety rating. This is the first time I ever looked at their website and there seems to be a lot of info there. It's not just a simple 0-5 stars, there are different categories and stuff.
Note, it shows A6 from 1998 vs 2004. Naturally the NCAP tests are done before the car is launched so they're really the 1999 and 2005 models.
No matter how safe we might think things like older Volvos, Mercedes and SUV's are, the NCAP tests prove that it's just not true. If safety is your primary concern then I'd say don't go for any car older than 2 years. The advancements in the current generation of cars is dramatic.

http://www.euroncap.com/carsearch.aspx?make=ef018b8a-892c-4abb-92b0-24103a2c81be&q=a6</a
