Default LCD problems?

Has anyone ever had the BOSE LCD or the tripcomputer LCD go out on them? My sisters A6 2.7T has had this problem some months now. It seems that the LCD's come on after the car has been sitting for a wile but if you turn it off and then back on it doesn't work anymore. If you guys have any ideas about what could be wrong you could save her a trip to the dealership. The car has 3000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Chris

My 98A6Q2.8 had trouble with the LCD fading out - dealer replaced entire instrument cluster under warranty. There is also a switch on the bottom of the right hand stalk to turn the whole thing on and off that may have something to do with it too.

The radio display and the associated display in the instrument cluster have been cited as having a firmware problem. This apparently does not affect everyone but your sister will have to pay a visit to the dealer and they will order an entire new radio unit.

Due the fact that it is a firmware (if I remember correctly) problem, the only fix utilized in to install a new radio. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. However, it seems everyone who posted about a replacement never had any other problems post op.

The display in the instrument column can be turned off/on by depressing the button on the underside of the windshield wiper stalk. Try it. You will see it cycle. This button can also be used to get the trip computer display while in nav mode.
