Default LEDs, ECU and Flasher...

I've been playing with various LED bulb replacements. The reason is for some personalization, reduced power load, and reduced delay to light up brake lights.

The issues I expected to come up, have... :-/ The ECU checks the brake circuit load, sees almost nothing from LEDs and displays Brake Light Out. The turn signals also flash fast, bulb out warning, for the same reason.

The easy band-aid fix is the turn signals. Since I haven't yet found a rear LED that is bright enough to use, I put a 50W Halogen in. That defeats one point of LEDs, since I have just moved the load instead of reducing it, but that may be the only answer. I'm not very optimistic of the Audi flasher being anything standard, provided I can find it w/o disassembling the whole dash...

The ECU is where I'm hoping the Forum can help. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the brake light test or to reset the load value? The alternative is to only change the CHMSL to LEDs, since they seem to have less affect on the bulb load check...

just put in a load resistor equivalent to the incandescent lights removed. Most of the led sources also sell the load resistors.

Default You can also get direct replacement bulbs...

...that have resistors built in.

IMHO using a load resistor is not an option... not clean and a heat hazard. I'll stick with incandescent if there is no way to teach the ECU.

The resistors that are built in are in series, current limiting resistor, for the LEDs. Without them the LEDs would be very bright, but only last a few seconds. Unless you are talking about your complete lamp assembly replacement... BTW, they look nice.

I know of none for the wheat-kernel type bulbs used in the CHMBL on sedans, much less the sealed one on the S6.

Not so much a problem for the 1157(?) bayonet base ones which I might try on the A6 sedan.

LED taillights are available plug and play for the S6 avant. I haven't seen the LED CHMBL for the S6...anyone?

Default LED replacements for type 70 bulbs...

FYI I did find some replacements for the small type 70 bulbs used in the CHMSL. They should be here by this weekend so I'll post how they worked out... Details in AudiWorld post
