I'm close to making a decision on a '01 2.7T, and trying to decide on a color combo that works - would like some opinions from existing owners who have this combo, AND, why it appealed to them in first place, and second, any cosmetic upkeep problems? Other combo considered is Cashmere/Melange. Thanks to all who reply.

Casablanca white in my opinion is a great color on the A6 lineup particularly in the 2.8 and 2.7 T.. It shows the distinct lines yet is rare.. There are simply too many silver Audi's out there.. If I had gone for a 4.2, I think I would've opted for dark blue or black however.. The 4.2's fender flares and aggressive stance is more appealing in a dark color..

Regarding Melange interiors... I think had we had the opportunity to choose again, I would've gone for a dark grey or blue interior.. Melange is hard to upkeep, soils easily, particularly around the footwell area and carpets...

Default Melange Interior

I have a Melange/Melange A6 and think the Melange interior is very rich looking. I have had mine for about four months and have no problem keeping the interior clean. Two additional benefits:

- The lighter color shows less dust and specks than darker interiors. My wife has a black leather interior on her '99 Accord Coupe and it's a dust magnet. Any dirt, sand, or debris on her carpets sticks out like a sore thumb.

- The lighter wood trim on the Ambiente interior looks better than the darker woods in the Advance and Ambition schemes (IMHO) especially in dim lighting.

Two down-sides:

- Lighter interior panels show scuffs more readily

- Light leather gets grey-looking over the years if not properly cleaned and fed, whereas darker leathers merely look dull with age. I use Lexol products to care for my leather.

As for the carpets getting dingy-looking. I remove my carpet inserts twice a year (I've had light interiors for years), scrub them with "Resolve" carpet cleaner using a brush, let them dry, them vacuum them. They end up looking like new.
Charlie

Have you considered the Pearl White? It's not listed in the brochure, but it can be ordered for an additional $1200. I've seen two of them at Audi dealers; one 2.7T and one 4.2. Very classy looking.

Hello, Rick.

I too have been leaning towards the Casablanca White/Melange combo, but I was told by my salesman that this combo would likely need to be ordered. He hadn't seen the combo on any cars that had come through his dealership; seems that the white isn't very popular. I would have to agree with him; I have yet to see a white A6 on the road. He even had a white '00 model sitting there unsold that right off the bat he said they'd discount to move!

I'm going to head to the dealership today or tomorrow to talk with him some more and see if there are enough A6s on the lot to get an idea of how other color combos really look up close in daylight. My second choice is Melange/Melange at this point, but whatever I decide I hope to get a look at it. I'd hate to buy the White/Melange sight unseen, but I think the combo would be very upscale looking. Might need a bit more exterior cleaning, but that's tolerable I suppose.

Good luck with your decision!

Default Thoughts from a Casablanca White/Melange owner (long)

Rick,

My wife and I have had our Casablanca White/Melange A6 for about 4 or 5 weeks now and we love it! I have seen exactly two other Casablanca White A6's (perhaps the same one) here in the sf bay area... but the one I actually looked inside had the Cashmere (?) interior.

We chose the melange because we liked the lighter "feel" of the melange leather. It is a very traditional, rich leather color and feel. We thought that the darker leathers were too, well, dark for a car with as light an exterior as we wanted.

Originally, my wife wanted to go for the Pearl White option, but we decided against that for a couple of reasons: (1) the extra cost, (2) talking with other Pearl White owners about the difficulty of matching the paint when the inevitable happens. So, we went with Casablanca White. For us, there really was no question that we were going to get white... our existing cars were/are dark colors and we were/are tired of them looking dirty .3 seconds after being washed. So, we pretty much had our minds made up before we even started looking at cars; at least, as far as exterior colors went.

It is true that you will probably have to order the car if you want white. I talked with a couple of dealers here in the Bay Area when we were first looking and, for whatever reason, white doesn't appear to be a terribly popular color. I don't understand why; we think the car look fabulous! Plus, it's kinda nice to not have one of the "more standard" colors... gives us an opportunity to stand out in a crowd.

When I get home tonight, I'll snap a few pictures of the car and post 'em for you. Then, you can decide for yourself.

Cheers,
--Doug

We have a 2001 A6 Avant with Casablanca/melange. Exterior color is okay, but melange interior is beautiful. Everytime I drive the car I marvel at the beautiful color combination--no apparent relation to the exterior melange. It's unique, subtle, classic, and I think will outlive trends such as that blue interior I happened to view a few weeks ago in an A4 2000--yuck. The wood and brushed aluminum is also beautiful.

On the west coast this combination is very popular. We looked at three cars in three different states (CA, NV & AZ), all casablanca (and I wanted silver--couldn't find it!)
rj

Default White/Melange....4 months now and loving it!

Casablanca white/Melange were my first color choices and I will never regret making that decision. I feel that, by far, this color combo is the most elegant, and surpasses all the others because of its uniqueness. This color combo is rare here in Houston/Austin/Dallas. Four out of every five audi's I see are silver.

White is a bit harder to keep clean than say melange or silver, but when clean it is an absolute eye-catcher. (Our dealer will wash it for us whenever we take it in.) As for the melange/ambiente, I love it even more. It absorbs the least heat out of all the other interiors, which is great in this Texas heat, not to mention that it looks the classiest. Darker interiors also make it look much smaller. It is also much easier to see dust in darker interiors.

Best of luck in your decision. Hope I helped in some way.
MN

Hi again!

I just test-drove a White/Melange 2.7t yesterday, and I like it a lot. The lighter-colored wood is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned, and the interior color contrasts subtly with the white.

There was also a fully-loaded '00 Melange/Melange 2.7t on the lot, and I didn't care for the sameness of the interior/exterior color. Nice paint color, though.

I was glad to find that the white doesn't cause any sort of a glare problem at all from the driver's perspective.

Cheers,

- Leo
