Looking to buy a 98-04 Audi v6 or v8 for $2500
hi I’m looking to buy my first car and i really like the 98-04 body style sedans that Audi made. I have $2500 and I’d like to find one that’s either a 6 cylinder or 8, not 4. Is this enough money to purchase one with no more than 150k miles? Just wondering a fair purchase price for any Audi of this generation that’s not a 4 cylinder. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks

As has been noted many times on this forum, the cost of maintaining a $2500 audi might be many times that, depending on the qualitiy of prior maintenance. If you can do your own work (requires a good workshop manual and many special tools), the cost of the first year's maintenance might be as little as $1000, but if you have to rent a qualified mechanic's time and tools, the first years maintenance might cost $5000.
If you find one that fits your budget, spend a couple hundred dollars to have an independent Audi specialist do a pre purchase inspection to let you know whether you are getting involved in a money pit or a well maintained car.
TLR I would generally not recommend a used Audi for someone's first car. Think Honda or Toyota.

Thanks for your reply. Maybe ill convince my parents to take out a loan and I could buy something a little nicer than 2500, since I’d be working more with a car and not having my parents drive me. I’ll keep looking for something around 2500 though. Just curious, what do you think an 2001 Audi v6 is worth in your opinion? maybe I’ll just buy a cheap dependable American car then for what I have already. Thanks.

You might want to look up the value on kbb.com or other valuation websites.

Agree on this might not be the best car for you. Only way I would reconsider is if you happened upon one that was owned by original buyer and was driven sparingly and serviced regularly. Ideally it was owned by someone you know and they are being kind to you as a family member. Otherwise I would wager nearly any C5 for sale for $2500 needs at least another $1000+ to put it into the safe and reliable category.
Great cars, we own three and use as daily drivers. But we are DIY and believe in routine maintenance and safety (brakes, tires, steering and suspension) repairs.

Ok thanks for your opinions. I know this is an Audi forum but what do you guys think is a good v-6 or v-8 that’s good quality for 2500 and is not from japan or any Asian country? Thanks. And also, kbb says around 2-3000 for c c5
