Looking at a used A6
Hey all,
Looking to buy an 2000 A6 2.7T 6sp Quattro. Audi Assured, $24900, 50K miles, Silver with black leather, from a dealer.
Anything I should be looking for? Anything I should worry about?
Suggestions on extended warranty?
Thanks,
Ken

Look for leaks (tranny, engine), service records...
and I would recommend a good comprehensive
extended warranty. If you look for a car
of similar year and mileage you should be
able to do $21,000 or thereabouts if you stay
away from the dealers.
I went with "extended auto warranty corp."
just bought it though so I cant tell you if
they are good or not. After extensive research
I was convinced they were worth the risk.
But I will only find out in a couple of years
when I need them...

Re: If it is audi assured, then it has an extended warranty. 2yrs/100k miles from the day you buy it
I knew that, but I'd like to get something to cover me for at least the length of the loan...

First thing you should look for is a lower price. (I'm sure you can get them down at least $2K)
and do not Underestimate how good the audi assured warranty is for a 2.7T (or most audi's in general). It is SO worth it to know that every little thing is covered. (95% of what will/may go wrong with the car is not covered by any 3rd party extended warranty in existance).
But at the same time, don't let the dealer know you know that, they will always use that as an excuse to over charge you. At least get them down $1K if you can't swing em $2K.

Re: Looking at a used A6
Hey all,
Thanks for the pointers so far. I've been digging in the forums and have noticed that the 2001's seem to have had fewer problems in general, and the turbos specifically, and what should show up on the lot? a 2001, 46k miles, Assured listed for $27900. Any 2001 specific advice?
I've been dragging them through all of the other rigamarole (extended test drives, maintenance records, etc.), so we haven't talked price, I flat told them that we'll talk about that when I'm ready to talk about that...
Hope to join the cadre of happy Audi owners soon!

Here are a couple
I've noticed that many things that break on the A6 aren't covered.
Rubber pieces - (read: TBBs, TieRod Ends, Water Leak into passenger side of cabin)
There's the 95%.
The other 5% is the control arms that are covered.
(Like my simplicity?)
ps. I shouldn't have said "no 3rd party warranty", as I'm sure there is at least one or two that would cover rubber pieces. But that is like one or two out of thousands of warranty companies.
