Need help troubleshooting engine misfire...
I have a 99 A6 with the 2.8 engine and 145K miles. The engine is misfiring and I get codes 16684 and 16685 only. I have replaced the ignition coil, swapped injectors, and swapped spark plugs but the codes persist. I checked the resistance on the spark plug wires and they are all within spec. I also checked the injectors prior to swapping them and they are also within spec. As a test I unplugged the injector for cylinder one and the car ran rough, but did not misfire (I guess due to lack of fuel). Is there a way to check the fuel pressure with VAG-COM? I donā€TMt know what else to check. I have been thinking that I would change the fuel filter. Maybe there is not enough pressue or ā€oeflowā€¯ to supply all the cylinders. I am at a loss and could really use some suggestions. It seems that no matter what I do, cylinder one misfires.
Thanks,
Lonnie

Fuel pressure is mechanical test only. Have you cleared DTC's and tried to generate readiness code?
Next read value blocks for mass airflow. Any drivability issues with these misfires?

Thx everyone..found the problem.
I was a damn spark plug wire. so I moved on...Last night, I decided to start from the begining again based on the e-bahn manual.. This time though I swapped the plug wire for cylinder one and cylinder three..cleared codes and drove the car..checked codes and three was misfiring. So I replaced the wire for $24.95
What is irritating is that the manual says to check the wires resistance..That checked out okay so I assumed it was good.
Thnx,
Lonnie
