New Member and advice on buying A6 2.7T
Hey guys I am a new member here. Seems like a really great forum. I would like some advice on if you guys think that this is a good deal:
2001 A6 2.7T, Black, Nav, Park control, Sport package, Leather, Tiptronic, Bose, 43,000 miles.
the car has 7000 miles of the complete warrantee and has the Audi Assured up to 2 years/ 100,000 miles.
The price I can get the car for is $30,550.00. I have a deposit down for it, and go to test drive it again and pick it up Monday.
It sounds like a great deal to me. and this is why I thought that I should ask you guys what you think. This seems like a really, good deal. It comes out to be a lot lower in price than I am getting from online quotes, even with the miles that the car has. The dealer assures me that this car was purchased from Audi Finacial on a lease return, and that they have all the records on the car and that they don't buy cars unless they are perfect.
But I am wary because it almost seems to good to be true. The car is much less than online quotes and less than equivilant cars in the paper. I guess I don't have anything to worry about with the warrantees in place. But do you guys have any info or opinions about this? any specific things I should look out for? Is this normal price? Has anyone gotten a better deal than this?
Thanks for any input.

Re: New Member and advice on buying A6 2.7T
Check service history prior to buying the car if you can - dealer should allow this unless there is something to hide. Some owners of 01s (myself included) had probs with turbos and brakes. Car seems fully loaded and price does seem very good.

thanks, what kind of problems did you encounter? I have heard a little about the rotors warping, what turbo problems did you have? was it issues with the throttle body boot?

No my turbos failed and had to be replaced at 7K miles
The brake rotors warped at 9k and had to be replaced. Also had probs with steering pump - replaced at 13K. My car was eventually "bought back by Audi" and I recd a 2003 2.7T

Depends on condition,,, when dealer says something is perfect
it is not always what you think is perfect. And I would ask the dealer why they have priced the car serveral thousand dollars below retail book if it is "perfect". Assuming car is in the perfect condition that you imagine, get the warranty and it looks like you have reasonably good deal. It doesn't look like a "great" deal. Kelly gives a car as you described it a price of just under 30K if sold by a private party, retail about 34K. With a little effort you can probably find others.

Also ask if it's been in any accidents...
Get them to put in writing that to their knowledge there is no hidden damage or repairs. If they don't kinow of anything, it shouldn't be a problem for them to sign it. If there is known damage they need to disclose it.
I'm not saying there is damage but it's always a good idea to ask. They should disclose it if there has been any damage.

Too many miles for a 2001 plus the 2.7T cost premium
I've got a 2001, late model manfact in May 2001, that is still in it's teens. 43K may indicate a hard driven car. Consider a 2001 2.8 or 2002 3.0 that may have not have been quite so driven. A 2.7T incurs a hefty 20-25% premium that may be hard to justify. No turbo lag and a bigger engine in the 2.8 or 3.0. (OK, i can hear the hissing....IMHO then, OK?)
