Default Out of complete ignorance I had a great scare today

So I jump into my car a few hours ago after it sat up about 24 hours. Have a seat and crank up the ole girl and oh SNAP!!! Why do I see this huge thermostat sign in my center display!!! And it's beeping...LOL!! Turns out I was low on coolant. What a scare...but I still need to see why and if there is a leak. Just thought you guys might see the humor in that. I need a manual.

Default Being low on coolant is never a good thing. Even old cars with no leaks don't lose coolant...

my money is on the waterpump.

Default Hmm...well the coolent wasn't that low

it was below the min mark though. I plan on taking her in tomorrow to get checked. And if it is the pump...I just had that changed with TB...so I shouldn't have to pay for that to get changed.

Default As a general rule I'd add coolant before I took the car in...

you might lose some more on the way in, but you'd have that much more leeway.
Add coolant up to the max mark in this case even if cold.

And clearly when you start it check for obvious leaks.

You might even consider leaving the coolant cap reservoir loose so pressure can't build up and accelerate any leakage.

Watch your temp gauge on the way in and you should be ok.

Default check the resevoir--if it's yellow, there's probly a leak somewhere.

buy a nice, new, white one.

Default How long ago was the TB changed? Is it possible the car "burped" or the mechanic forgot to top off?

When my TB was changed, my car had so much air in the lines that my coolant went below the min line (and I got the flashy lights and bells) when it finally burped.

Default Thanks for all the advice and help...

To answer a few questions.

The reservoir is a grayish color, not yellow or clear. And I topped it off yesterday and it seems to be holding so far...but I haven't really driven the car much at all.

I had the TB changed about a month ago and never had an issue. Its recently gotten cool out here and i am wondering if that could have caused something. And it is possible that the mech didn't top off my coolant.

I am working from home today, plus my back went out of Wednesday (I am officially not a spring chicken anymore). I wont be going into the offices until Friday and drop the car off.

Thanks again.
