Default Plug'N'Play switchable 605 relay. just plug it in mount the switch, done! (more inside)

I was unable to retrive any usable pics. from my dead digital camera(damn it!). But all is not lost. I pulled the "relay" and scanned it in. The 605 is a pain in the butt to get open so, sorry no internal pics. Also I talked to Dano (part of the excellent service team at Avantage Audi in Houston TX.)he is going to see if they have an old/nonoperative relay that I can use to get some fresh pics. so I can pass on what I know about the internals of this "relay", if you have seen the inside of the 605 you will know what I am talking about (its no wonder it costs so much)
If Dano is unable to find me a relay, is anybody willing to ship me their relay for a few days? If so, e-mail me at quattro0001@hotmail.com and we will work something out. This web site has been a great help for me over the past two years, I don't mind returning the courtesy.
Thanks.

Default Interesting approach, now if you have an '01...

just use a factory switch mounted in one of the blanks next to the ESP and you've got a pretty seamless (and fully reversible) solution. I just took mine out and put it in the glove box, that was even simpler.

Default Here are pics of one open. I've got a spare dash switch for that blank space...

But I wasn't sure I wanted the switch, given that I like the 628 pretty well.

Here is a picture of the relay opened up. Can you describe where you inserted the breakout wires?

PS: sorry about your camera and the lost shots.

Default Anyone know where (besides the dealer) I can purchase a switch similar to the ESP?

this way I too can have the option to turn 605 on and off... (actually, I'd have it off and the wife would have it on... sometimes...

Default Stoney I stole one of your pics, hope this helps (its term #15)

in the pic you can see a terminal just under that light blue tablet lookin' componant. thats terminal #15, the one you need. The fun part is removing the board. A good soldering/desoldering station is necessary to do this properly, or you will do permant damage to the relay, I removed the board cut the terminal, ground the terminal base a bit and installed an insulator in between where terminal 15 and the board meet I re-installed the board and soldered small jumpers to the remaining terminal nubs. drilled the cover for the terminals that my switch connector hook up to and re-assembled the relay.

Default This look familar? bad pic, I know. "best 1" that I got off- now dead digital camera

and that is not saying much, the rest were unviewable.
Lucky for me I also took along my regular camera when I took the allroad to the park for her first real set of pictures. otherwise I would have really been out of luck. I will post some others when I get those rolls of film developed.
By the way where are you at? Car looks vaguely familiar, I'm bad about this, I know cars and peoples faces a lot better than I remember names. thats it for now, take it easy.
