2000 4.2 here...

...I have remote windows and auto-lock/unlock, and it works wonderfully. Didn't even ask my dealer, but a local Audiphile did it for a handshake. Took less than 10 minutes.

Sometimes they just don't know - but hopefully they'd investigate...

It's a rather esoteric request, really. But when I think back to my days of phone support, a client called about a very obscure feature of the product. I didn't know about it, but at least I didn't just say it wasn't possible - I researched it and got the guy the answers he needed.

The dealer should do the same. Mine was (gawd, I said was instead of is) programmed to 14597 or 14957 not sure which. Auto-lock doors, and remote windows/sunroof.

Agree about obscure things, but this is NOT obscure, there was a TSB on it a couple years ago

and lots of people ask for it.
In fact, it SHOULD be a selling point for Audi and other car makers with this option. Many people would like to have the choice of programming their key fobs.

Take it from me, dealers/service techs don't track TSBs

Whenever I need one done, I print it out and give it to the service writer. They are amazed and impressed; of course now that Audi has locked up the system again, we've lost access.

Just got my 2000 A6 4.2 about 5 weeks ago. Have found this forum to be an excellent source of information, in addition to opening my eyes to all sorts of tempting modifications. But to the point regarding remote programming of the keys- what exactly does this reprogramming do? I live in Minnesota and am concerned about if the key unlocks the doors as well as open windows, I'd have to have it reprogrammed in the spring and again in the fall. Thanks for the info and I look forward to everyone's discussions here.
