Default Service guy at the dealer told me that my car is due for a vaccum hose recall..can the vaccum hose

affect my gas milage..My gas milage has always been on the low side..16MPG for city 21MPG at best for hwy..
The exhaust also smells of unburnt gas..
What other adverse effects can a bad vaccum hose have on the running of the car.

Interesting. Looks like you may have found a solution to that nagging problem.

Default This recall is months old...you should have got something by now....

It's only on the 2.8 (all models). Yes, if this is leaking your MPG will drop a little.

Default Other effects?

Don't know what may be vacuum operated on your '99, but you can trace the hose and see pretty readily. Vacuum used to provide a number of functions; distributor advance, carburator settings, and brake boost were common ones. A vacuum leak could really foul things up then; now...dunno.

Default A vaccum leak can affect manifold pressures causing poor gas mileage and poor performance.

Depending on where the leak is and how bad it is, it may also mess up exhaust sensors and the cat, in the long run.
