Default Synthetic Oil Question?

Man...there sure is alot of info on this. I need and opinion. I just bought a higher mileaged A6. (1998 A6 2.8 106,000 miles) I'm getting ready to do my first oil change and I was wondering if you experts would use a synthetic oil. I have no idea what has been used in the pass. Without knowing that....should I not start using synthetic and this high of mileage? Or does the mileage really matter? Any help would be appreciated!

Default Agreed. Synth is the preferred oil for turbos, but for NA cars its an open question.

At least in my mind (or what little is left of it!)

Default You could always pay it safe and use a synthetic blend...

that way you get the best of both worlds: Lubricity of a synthetic and the rubber seal material compatibility of a traditionbal Dino petroleum based product. My A6 has 82,000 miles and I use a Synthetic Blend with great results...good gas mileage with no leaks or oil burning.

Default David is there a vendor you know that sell the black trim material you mentioned the other day? I'd

like to look at getting rid of the strip in the back!

Default Agreed. You might want to consider two changes very close together

maybe 1500 to 2000 miles apart. How dirty is the oil on the dipstick? Does it have an odor? Let us hear what happened.
