Triptronic issue

Triptronic issue
When I put the shifter into "D" it automatically goes into triptronic mode. I can then manually shift up to 5 but it will not let me shift down at all when in triptronic mode. If I put the shifter into "4" it shifts up and down automatically just fine.
Has anyone seen this before? What causes this and is it an expensive fix?

never had it go into Tip by itself...but I did have it where I couldn't shift down.....just up.....
turned out to be the circuit board.....replaced under AoA...

A friend had a similar issue...
In his case it wouldn't always go into tip mode. Sometimes it would, sometimes he had to hold the shifter over to the right for it to work, other times it just stayed in Auto.
Background: There's a sliding piece of plastic, moved by the shifter, that has magnets clipped into little pockets under it. The circuit board underneath that has hall-effect sensors that detect the magnets when they move into position (as the shifter is moved).
In my friends case one of the magnets had become dislodged and attached itself to another! Thus is was not being detected properly all the time. We just retrieved it and pushed it back into place and that fixed the problem.
You need to remove the tip shift **** and unclip the wood surround, then you can get the slider plastic (the ribbed piece that you can see surrounding the lever arm) out to check/fix. Do a search (or maybe look through the tech section) for more details on removing the shifter **** and cover plate - not difficult.
Worth a try.
