What is your favorite stretch of road?
I ask the question in the hopes you all love driving as much as I do. And I'd love to discover some new roads. So, here's the scenario:
You have the day off. You have your car. You want to go for a drive, just for fun. Not to drive to a destination, not for a restaurant, not *necessarily* for the view (although that's probably an integral part of the answer)...the destination IS the stretch of road?
Where do you go? You must be able to complete the entire route in one day...
Me?
Pine Valley, CA up Sunrise Hwy (S1) to Julian, CA down the infamous Banner Grade (S2) to the "Great Southern Overland Stage Road" (S2) past Agua Caliente to Ocotillo and back on I-8 to Pine Valley.
Why? A great combination of twisty mountain roads for climbing and descending, combined with long, long stretches of barren Imperial Valley desert straightaways. Best of both: slow(er) speed athletic/technical driving and high speed hauling...

At night, the last 30 feet into my garage. In DC area, Georgetown Pike between...
... McLean and Dranesville is fun if you have a clear road. Incredible elevation changes, and turns.

The one with the least amount of traffic...
Actually, the Merritt Parkway has always been a favorite of mine. Things start to get crazy down towards NYC.
My other choice would be to head up 91N to Vermont and just pick an exit. Lots of fun roads up there...

Try Kirby Road between 123 and Westmoreland. That's what quattro was made for!

Here's another Cali one.
5 North to the 46 West to Paso Robles.
You've got the pass through the Grapevine over to the 46 which features straightaways, curves, picturesque scenery, wineries, little to no traffic during the week. When you hit Paso Robles, you could take the 101 south for a nice cool down by the Pacific Ocean.
You get a good dose of reality once you hit the traffic in the San Fernando Valley.
