Default boy, you got that right

You should see the pictures I have when I took my wheels off. Very rusty.

You don't do anything about it. They're just that way. They'll rust back up if you remove it anyway.

Default The rotor and hat are made of cast iron. This dissipates heat most evenly to avoid warpage.

Not sure if you mean the area between rotor and the actual wheel hub ? Some rotor suppliers will coat the hat with a non-rusting material. Not sure who would do this for the 2.7t brakes.

PS. I think a lot of the warpage problems may be due to people stopping really hard and then sitting in traffic with the foot on the brakes ( Tips mostly ) shortly there-after, thus creating a hot spot where the rotor cools more slowly.

Default You may want to try Ospho or Navel Jelly (hey Chemist Guy, HELP) turns iron oxide (rust) into

iron pyrite I think. Bottom line is the rust turns into a hard black coating.

I've used it on old pickup trucks before and it worked "reasonably" well. There was rust "bleedthrough" in a truck bed after a year or so. I never painted over the black coating (iron pyrite).

You can get Ospho, etc., at all "common" auto parts stores, Schucks, Pep Boys, etc. Look in the paint section. Last time I looked there wasn't any Ospho but there were four products that all did the same thing.

I actually knew some commercial fishermen that liked to season a boat gun by letting it rust and then coating it with Ospho. But we had wooden boats, iron men and stainless steel guns only existed in science fiction novels.

WEAR GLOVES !!! That stuff really makes a mess of your finger nails. Usally when you apply it you :

1. wire brush, get rid of excess rust.
2. Paint / sponge on the liquid.
3. Rust turns a green color.
4. Wipe off excess liquid.
5. Rust drys as a hard black coat.

There are also fancier / better primers. Make sure they can take the heat if you try them.

Might worth a try - just don't get it on the rotor
