Default won't start...

Occasionally, over the past few weeks the car wouldn't start on the first try. Almost always, it would finally fire on the third try. Sometimes she'd start on the first try but probably 1 time out of 3, I'd have this problem. It didn't seem to matter if the engine were hot or cold, the frequency was random. Anyway, I knew the OEM battery was toast because it held a charge very poorly. e.g. Once I left the fan on for 20 sec. while the car was off and the battery was totally drained. Besides, it was the OEM and it didn't owe me much. So, yesterday I finally put a new battery in and presto, she fired right up on the first try and very quickly at that. I was ecstatic. The new battery turned the engine over much faster than the tired OEM so I thought "Problem solved." Also, the CEL went off so I was very pleased. Next stop, car wash. After the wash, I try to start her up and no fire. It turned like a windmill but it wouldn't catch. I tried 15 - 20 times over the next half hour before I had it towed to my mechanic. Bummer. So again, I turn to the audiworld community for it's expertise. What do you guys think? TIA.

Default Something in the ignition system got wet at the carwash

Either old plug wires, or something else which generates or carries spark. I'd also guess distributor cap, but I guess that was in the old days.

I bet that it will start right up when it dries out. However, I'd get the plugs replaced, just to be on the safe side, in case they got fouled.

Change plugs and do a throttle adaptation.

Default Had the same problem with mine after washing....try a search... I just

pushed the gas pedal to the floor, then turned the key and it caught.... I did a search and someone stated that it will happen after a car wash. It was stated to let it run a bit while washing... I let mine run until it warms up then I shut it off....no problems after that routine....but yes my engine turned over like crazy just like yours did, and never caught...and I was very pissed .. until I did an audiworld search.....good luck....
