There's plenty of time to think about this afterwards but little thought goes into it before

Default marco 2.7t

I want to puke. I do not care about the racer's death but the innocent person - I want to puke. The other surviving racer should get the chair!

Default this is a lousy article

I hate how our press tried to link into hip trends (such as the release of a major motion picture) to increae their ratings/add sell rates. It's not journalism, its marketing.

The speculation about the "red button" becomes the big deal and the actual facts become the back story. Let alone what happened to the other driver.

This at least isn't quite as bad as the Union City story last Thurs or Fri.

Default Not a complete solution but we need more race tracks - everywhere - cheap

Drag tracks and others. Of course basic safety inspections are a must, but open otherwise. It must be cheap to participate. They have to be accesable too.

Many people I have spoken to, and I myself, have found racing on the street too dangerous and watching for cops too tedious once exposed to a race track environment.

Some people will never learn. Their egos are found on their sleeves.

Default According to what I saw on the boob tube this weekend, that ain't nothing.

In England there are people that steal a car, go to the local police station, make a rukus until a cop car starts chasing them, drive the wrong way in traffic, pull over, wait for the cop to catch up and then ram the cop car.

Default The chair may be a little harsh, but not by much...

I don't intend to be a baby about this, but this story brings up a topic that's come up many times on this board.

First, I own up to a bias since my brother-in-law was killed by a DUI with a *long* history.

How many of the informal 'street racers' we have on this board (all the ones who talk about 'smoking a <fill in your least favorite car> on the <fill in your local interstate>') think about this possibility? Kill yourself if you want, it's your life. But think about the possibility of taking someone elses life. To head off one of the possible responses; yes it *is* kind of the same situation as a DUI. Like the DUI, these 'racers' didn't *intend* to kill anybody, but did so due to irresponsibility.

To me, the best thing about the QC events (and others) is being able to get this out of your system in a controlled, safer environment. I agree with April, we need more of these. But would these 'racers' bother?

Donning the Nomex...
