Terry,
Those headlights need D3S bulbs. If you're buying the '09 headlights from eBay, they probably won't include the bulbs, bulb holders, or ballasts.

I had bought a set of bulbs & ballasts from HIDConcepts.com, had no issues with them. You'll need something like this:
http://hidconcept.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=78
Bulb holders are harder to find, though... you'll have to find on eBay, or perhaps the parts counter at Audi.

You're upgrading from halogen, so few more things you'll need:
  • Connector adapter: the halogen headlights use a 10-pin connector. The Xenon headlights have a 14 pin. Kufatec.com can set you up with the right adapter cables, http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_i...udi-A6-4F.html
  • If you want to have high beams, you'll need to connect the bi-xenon shutter to the central electronics module. This involves running a new wire from the headlights through the firewall and into the cabin, ending underneath the steering wheel (that's where the CEM is located). Non-trivial amount of work. The adapter cable above includes the extra wires.
  • The central electronics module will need to be recoded for xenon headlights, otherwise you'll get bulb out errors.

I didn't think there was a version of the Xenon headlights that don't have leveling motors; the only variations I'm aware of are the one with AFS and the one without... AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) is for steering the main beam left or right as you turn the wheel. Are you sure the ones you bought don't have leveling motors? I'm not sure if you need to auto-level, but I can tell you it's more parts, and more work to install the sensors and harnesses. Someone in the UK did it though.

Good luck...

You should install motors from your halogen headlight and install 3 new wires between 10 and 14 pin plugs, in 1-2-3 pins and then your manual leveling will continue to work!!!If you have a problems PM me or call me.

ok...so i have an 05 with xenons and afs. i got my hands on 09 facelifted headlights with led's. i have the new bulbs, etc. anyone have info on the wiring? i have two wiring diagrams in front of me and was wondering if i needed to swap pin #12 from my vehicle harness and put it into pin #10 for the new led light.

pin #12 is for the drl of the original '05 light. so, if i swapped it to pin #10, then the drl would only work if i had drl's turned on through my mmi. and turn off with the headlamps on. does that make sense?

i want to run them full brightness all the time, even with the headlights on. can i run straight 12v to pin #10?

thanks in advance...any help is greatly appreciated. i plan on doing this this weekend.

Hi, I got my ballast from a copy in China (http://aescar.en.alibaba.com/product...uctdetail.html) and they were cheaper and work. They have the bulbs and the holders.

The question I have is on the running the wires from the lights to the CEM. Is there an easy way to run these through the firewall or how others have ran these wires. Any pictures or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Terry

I LOVE IT!!!

I just got a 2006 A6 with 39k miles (plus 24k warranty for free)... FULLY LOADED (every feature Audi offers).

I have the Bi-Xenon AFS Headlights on it and it uses the "inner" light (looks like they're Halogen) as the current DRL's... how can i change to the LED Headlights???

It also has the Standard Round Fogs lights... where can i get the Bumper Fog Light Grills to use the LED Lights instead???

Default wow my brain is fried after reading 13 pages! and now im a bit scared/stressed!

Yesterday i got into a little fender bender and my right light took most of the damage, my left light has a broken tab so i just figured id upgrade my 2005 headlights to the 2009 leds.
(I was hoping my bulbs and ballast would swap over but i guess they dont)

so my question is do i need this :
http://hidconcept.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=80

or this:
http://hidconcept.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=78

(one comes with an led ballast)

2nd stupid question due to my brain being overloaded with information. if i just plug them in and try to turn them on without VAG COM what will happen? (i dont own a VAG COM)
(Im hoping the headlights and turn signal would work till i can get it to a shop to recode them for me)

thanks in advance
