18' Rims + Sport Suspension = Very Harsh Ride?
Hello everyone
Quick question... Do any of you with 18' rims and Sport Suspension find the ride too uncomfortable or harsh?
I'm asking because I'm considering to get this configuration on the A6.
Thanks,
Alessandro

I have the 18" All Season tires and the ride is stiff, but not harsh. When Car and Driver reviewed the car about a year ago, they concluded that the 18" tires with the sport suspension was too harsh.

Re: 18' Rims + Sport Suspension = Very Harsh Ride?
I have the 18" rims with the Sport suspension and high-performance summer tires. I would have to say that the ride does feel a bit harsh, especially at slower speeds on road imperfections.
More than harsh, I would say it feels a bit brittle and slammy with the tires tracking each and every bump and transmitting it to the chassis. However, higher speeds is where the benefits of the sport suspension really show. Flat cornering, excellent damping on dips, and almost non-existent body-roll. I would not buy the car without the sport suspension, but would perhaps prefer tires that have slightly softer sidewalls to absorb road-bumps a bit better.
Hope that helps. Good luck with your decision.

Re: 18' Rims + Sport Suspension = Very Harsh Ride?
I have an '06 A6 3.2 S-Line with 18" all-season tires, and I have found that the ride is firm but I wouldn't consider it to be harsh by any stretch of the imagination. Local roads have quite a few imperfections due to freeze/thaw cycles, and the A6 is extremely comfortable. It definitely has a firmer ride than an E350 similarly equipped, but I have always found the MB E-class to be on the soft side.

It really depends on what sort of roads you are traveling on. I have the S-line suspension (harder and lowered) plus 18" P Zero Rosso combo and it is definitely much stiffer than the AR I had before. Having said that however, I now much prefer this setup as there is less "float", which I think makes the ride more controlled.

So would you consider 17" rims + sports suspension?
I'm thinking of keeping my rims but putting in the sports (20 mm lower) suspension (not the s-line 30 mm lower).
Anyone here with that combination, and has the ride significantly deteriorated vs stock?
