Bought a 2007 S6 V10 today-Pic
So Happy, picked up a beautiful 2007 S6 V10 with 120K miles. I had a A8 with a 4.2 but this by comparison is a rocket ship.
One small item, When I adjust the height of the steering wheel, the max distance between high and low is only about 1". Not high enough for me to see the turn signal indicators. Seems it should move much more. Ever hear of this issue?

Reset the steering column via the vag com.
Congrats on the ride and welcome. Also hope you got a warranty on it or are good at DIY. Since the S6 is a brute, but can also put a bruise on your wallet.

There are a whole bunch of S6 guys over on AudiRevolution.
If you havent checked out the S6 info dump and my build thread, I suggest you give them a read. Most of the common issues are discussed on AR, so as a new owner it will have valuable information for you.

Carbon buildup with the S6, and every other Audi FSI cars of the same era, is a known issue which is very well documented on many forums.
Audi FSI Engine Carbon Build-up Megathread
The Jalopnik article makes the mistake of implying that you can avoid carbon buildup with a regular "italian tuneup", which is false.
Despite the many internet fixes, there is no known 'cure' for avoiding carbon buildup on these engines. Newer engines implemented a different design that allows cleaning of the back of the valves. This is not available for retrofit on older Audis.
We are hoping that adding a more free flowing exhaust will help with the carbon buildup on my car, but we wont know until a have everything complete and then complete testing over several years.
On the v10 S6, the before and after carbon clean is good for up to 50+ HP at the wheels

If you buy any of these FSI cars, you will simply have to budget for a regular carbon clean. And just be happy that is all you have to do. On the BMW M5 the dealer fix for the carbon buildup issues that plagued those cars is quoted at $5000-$8000! We get off easy

Oh I know all too well the impact of carbon build up on Audi's FSI (DI) engines...wrote about it here:

Things like Italian tune-up, seafoam, etc...just help prolong the need for a carbon clean, but as you pointed out, there's no way around that fact that DI engines will have carbon build-up.

Yeah, I just think about it as part of regular maintenance at this point. But for a new buyer who wasnt aware of the issue, it can come as quite a surprise, and may account for an added expense that they hadnt planned for.
