Can wrong battery programming cause MMI failure?
I inherited a very low mileage 2005 A6 and decided to keep it. I had it inspected by a local Audi dealer. They said it needed a new battery so I said do it. Shortly thereafter the MMI went dead and the battery kept dying. The dealer wanted to replace the alternator. An independent shop told me my battery had been improperly programmed and was probably the reason the MMI got fried. My independent shop reprogrammed the battery and found me a used MMI. The car is now running great. What is the likelihood that an improperly programmed battery could cause an MMI failure?

before you went ahead and got a replacement MMI, did you pull a VCDS and check fuses...since sometimes it's the simple things...I know from firsthand experience.
