Dealer wants $610 to fix fuel gauge

I did get the battery replaced under warranty at the auto parts place. Without a receipt, which was nice of them.
As for the gauge I didn't pay them the $610 to fix the gauge. The kicker is when I picked up the car the gauge was working, and has been since. Knock on wood, it may come back and be an intermittent problem, but it sure was non-functional for several days beforehand. Thanks for all the help, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Good Info Thanks! Our 06 has had this issue twice
Two years ago they did the software update, and in December they did the wire connector TSB procedure. So far so good. Next time will be on us as warranty has ended.
Here are the links to the individual TSBs for the fuel gauge. I had the work performed on my 05 4.2 for the same problem and it was only the software that needed to be done.
