Default Re: A few questions to you guys

Yes the fuse that comes with the kit is pretty frail looking. I replaced it with a sealed plastic one.
The clip at the end of the power wire plugs into the 2nd fuse holder connector (in the E-Box) which you have to pull out. It plugs into the connector from the back up 7 places from the bottom of the connector. That clip is the other contact for the fuse you are going to install.

Hope this helps!

Default Wait a sec, confused.

The fuse goes in one slot and the clip in a different slot OR do they go in the same slot but in the opposite sides of the slot? So, does the clip basically connect to the plugged in portion of the fuse? So, basically, the fuse provides power to that slot and the wire picks it up and carries it to the NAV? I used something similar in my Benz. I bought it as 1 piece though. It looked like a plastic sealed Fuse with a piece of Wire sticking out of it.
See pic below.

"Does the clip basically connect to the plugged in portion of the fuse? So, basically, the fuse provides power to that slot and the wire picks it up and carries it to the NAV?"

The "red/brown" wire from the new DVD Nav unit plugs into the 2nd fuse holder connector slot 7 of the E-Box, so when the fuse is inserted across the two slot 7's of the fuse holder connector it carries the power back to the Nav Unit.

That little clip goes into the fusebox and on one side of the fuse is the power bus and the clip goes on the other side and runs power back to the unit.

What I did for the antenna is if you look on the underside of the rear shelf in the trunk, you will notice wholes in the metal there allowing you to see the bottom part of the rear shelf (fabric or cardboard). I just ran the antenna from behind the rear quarter panel in the trunk to the hole below the rear shelf. There will be about 4 inches of cable that shows but if you cover it with some sort of tape (gaffers tape is good) you will never notice. This saved me a good chunk of time.

I hope this helps.

Default Install done, NAV inoperative at this point :(

Here's what happened:
First, most of the the screws are a pain to get to. I did not have to take off any panels except for the plastic one behind the bumper. You will need a deep 10mm socket for ALL of them. You will need a short and a long extension to get to some of them. For one of them behind the panel on the bottom of the rack I used a 10mm wrench instead so that I would not have to remove the hole panel.

The instructions on wiring the fiber optic are horrible. They are talking about taking the blue bolt out of the connection. First, which connector? Second, there's no blue bolt! In the instructions from Kufatec, they mention that the connectors will be labeled but none are! You have to use your powers of deduction to figure out what goes where. They say unconnect 2 Fakra connectors (WTF is a Fakra?) as well as a 6-pin connection from the radiobox. I only disconnected one connector which seemed to match the configuration of the connector that came with the harness.

I think I got lucky though because my car had wiring for everything already setup. I found two harnesses secured against the rack. One had a Fiber optic connector attached to what seemed to be a fiber optic loop connector thingy. I disconnected the loop thingy and plugged that connector into the NAV.

There was another connector that looks like a power connector ( I thought about using that instead of wiring it like the instructions said but I decided against it ) and two other connector that look like antenna leads colors green and red. The NAV has a blue color connector so I figured they were not NAV leads.

Getting to the back side of the E-box was a pain because the jack is in the way, I had to unscrew that out of the way. Pushing the power wire into the back of the fuse box was a pain (you need a small flat screwdriver to do that).

The scary part was when it was time to reconnect the power to the battery. The thingy kept sparking and funny smells emanated throughout the trunk area. Image my face when everything turned up fine when I switched on the car. The MMI founf the NAV and it installed the software and it allows me to play with it but when I hit "Info" it keeps saying "Navigation not activated". Unless someone has a great idea it sounds like it's time to go the dealer.....

Thanks

CZ
