Default Help choosing tire

My 2008 Audi A6 avant we just took last week end will need some new rubber.

Right now it's equiped with the 17 inches wheel.

We had the idea to keep those wheel and put some winter tires on it and buy some after market one ( TireRack) in the 18 inches size for the summer.

So first of all what do you thing of the idea...17 for the winter, 18 for the summer. How will it change the ride of the car ?

Second question... what M+S tire to choose for the summer ( I don't want dedicated summer, just all season)

and then.... what winter tire ?

Thanks
Thierry

Many of us run a dedicated Winter rim/tire an inch less in diameter to provide a taller tire sidewall for shock absorption.

If you do plan to go with a dedicated Winter set then I don't understand why you would want an all season tire on your Summer set.

As far as tire, I'm a fan of Michelin, both performance and snow tire (latter their Alpin).

Well one of the reason I wanted M+S is just for those period during the year when the winter has not started but you got snow and you are caught with the M+S tires.

I live in Calgary, so I go skiing in the mountain all winter ( november to late april)
