My '06 A6 Avant, which has the Bi-Xenon Adaptive Headlights, has the same build codes. From ETKA 7, the description for the headlamp assembly is "headlamp for gas discharge bulb". For your VIN, the P/Ns for these headlamp assemblies are 4F0-941-029-AM (left) and 4F0-941-030-AM (right). BTW, we have both the same build date (06/05) for our A6s.

Gary,
What does the light have that you gave the part number for that the 4F0-941-004 light doesn’t have? The inside of this light looks like it has all of the components and the person says it has them all. I’m assuming they are just wrong. And I am probably wrong in my assumption that just because I see the motor and other components that are in mine that it has all the same features.

Also, what does the AM mean in the part # you gave me? Is that the 2 letters that should be next to the part number on the sticker on the headlight? Most of the ones I see with that part number have EN or EK or something. Here is one that I just happened to stumble across that has the AM. But look at the part number that they listed it under (4F0941004). This one (pictured) doesn’t have HS7 listed as one of the details on the right side of the sticker as some of the others I have seen with the 030 number. I know I have the HS7 bulb.

I am totally confused with these lights. Ugh.

I went back through my records to check what was the P/N for my driver's (left) headlamp assembly that was replaced under warranty. That P/N was 4F0-941-029-CS, which has been replaced by an updated P/N 4F0-941-029-EK. The right headlamp is P/N 4F0-941-030-EK. The description for this headlamp assembly is "headlamp for gas discharge bulb for vehicles with automatic dynamic, headlight beam length and curved light adjustment", and you can buy new for the low, low price of $1,088.10 (list $1,350). So, the P/Ns I listed previously are not the correct P/Ns for these headlamps. Sorry for the misinformation.

P/N 4F0-941-030-AM doesn't have the directional beam capability. The updated P/N for this headlamp is 4F0-941-030-ED per www.genuineaudiparts.com website.

Awesome. Thanks Gary.

So those must be those large large letters listed on the stickers to the right of the part numbers?? So in my eBay search I need to be searching for either 4F0 941 030 CS or EK (because I will NOT pay $1,000 for a new one). This should be interesting to find. I see all sorts of letter combinations. Guess they each mean different options.

Thanks again Gary.

I like this one. It has the right part number listed on the light 4F0 941 030 EK even though the listing has the part # as 4F0 941 003. The only thing that concerns me is that it has the module (box) on the side that’s black plastic (picture 9 of 11) and mine is silver and metal. Are they the same? Or can I take that one off and put mine on or will that not work?

Thanks.

Since this headlamp assembly is the updated part, I wouldn't worry too much about the color of the module on the backside. My guess is that Hella and/or Audi AG engineers changed that module to reduce the cost (and weight) for the updated part. Assuming it is compatible, you can try to switch the module with the one off your headlamp, but why chance it possibly failing since it would an older part. Note that this headlamp assembly was manufactured on Oct 2015, so the part is only a little more than 3 years old, and probably less than that when it was installed on the A6 it came from.

Gary,
I totally understand. What you are saying makes sense. I was thinking along those same lines (lighter and less expensive for them to make the one in the plastic black box instead of the silver metal box). I wasn't going to change them just for the color. LOL. I was only saying that if for some reason the black plastic one produced some sort of error code (if it is/was actually a different part), if I could likely install my silver one from my current light to fix the error. :-)

Thanks for your help as always. I really appreciate it.
