Default How to snake wire from cabin to engine bay?

In the process of powering the LED's - so I am using a relay and want to tap into a circuit in the fusebox to use as the trigger. Planning to use one of the fuse on the driver or the passenger side -- however, how do I route the wire from the fusebox area (inside the cabin) to the engine bay where the relay is going to be situated? thought I'd ask here before I started removing all the panels inside the car.

You should be able to route a new wire on the same path as the existing wire harness routes from the fuse panel to the engine bay.

hmmm.. I don't think I can see how the harness is being routed. Here is a pic of the driver side fusebox - I don't see any harness or way to get to the engine bay from here. What do I need to unscrew?

I just did this today and it was relatively simple if you have done this kind of thig before. I will post pics soon of my S6 LED on an Sline bumper.

1. Remove the plastic cover thats over the 2 firewalls.
2. On the driver side you can peek down near where the steering column goes into the engine bay and you will see a black rubber grommet that is shaped like a keyhole (Large on bottom then narrower on top). Its about 1.5" wide by 2.5" tall.
3. I removed it by forcing a long pointy object into it to make a small incision then pushed a larger screwdriver into it which got stuck. When I tried to pull the screwdriver out the grommet came with it. This may not be the best way nor did I plan on doing it that way but it worked for me.
4. There will be a one inch insulation behind this grommet that is also already cutout in the same shape as the grommet (Surprised when I found it). I used a coat hanger to push through.
5. You may need to drop the panel inside of the car for easier access and to be able to put the insulation back.
6. I used some long screwdrivers to position and push the rubber grommet back into place once I was done. It snaps back in relatively easy.

Good luck.

No pic, but what fe342185 posted appears to one solution for you.

Not sure if I can stop the grommet. I removed the panel below the steering - which is above the accelerator and below the steering. I can see wires, but can tell how they go from there to the engine bay.

I can spot the grommet either - HELP!!!

I'm not sure what you mean about stopping the grommet but I got went in from the outside. I pushed a sharp object into it from the outside then forced a larger screwdriver into it all from the outside.

If you do it from the inside the grommet may fall into a crevice that may be difficult to reach.

I hope this helps.

Sorry, I meant 'spot' the grommet, not stop. I can't see it anywhere - where is it?

Found it - I also used the screwdriver to pull it out. The wire comes out right next to the brake fluid reservoir (which I thought was too high on the outside). Thanks A6Gary and fe342185.
