If you're thinking of buying your leased car .. talk to ur dealer (I got a good deal)
I think I got a good deal from the dealer. I bought my own lease 2006 A6 Avant from the dealer at a lower price compared to the buy out price at Audi.
If I had bought my car directly from Audi, I would have paid $27,580 with no extended warranty and no new brakes.
I was lucky that my dealer said that if I really wanted to buy my leased 2006 A6 Avant, they could get it certified and extend my warranty to 6 years or 100,000 miles warranty.
After doing the 300 point inspections, they said I needed to change my rear brakes and cost $415.
So I bargained for a price of $26,500. This price is $1,080 lower than my Audi buyout price + I get the additional extended warranty up to 6 yrs/100,000 miles for a certified vehicle (worth $1,300+) + new rear brakes ($415).
Lastly, they threw in a great car mortgage rate of 4.90% for 60 months.
If you're thinking about buying your leased car, I strongly suggest you talk to your dealer. It's a win win situation. I gained some, but they also made money.
I think they were able to buy my 2006 A6 Avant from Audi at around $22,000 + they paid $1,385 to get it certified + $415 for the new brakes. I think their total acquisition cost was close to $24,000. Turned it back and sold it to me at $26,500. So, at least they made $2,500-$2,700. And I also saved some.

300 point inspection? can you list them?? lol jk I never really trusted that they checked 300 points around the car. Either way it sounds like you got a pretty good deal.

Here are some answers to your questions
I'm in North Carolina ...
I got about 49K miles on my car. The price was really around $26,085 for my Avant, but I knew my brakes needed replacement for the first time and that would have costed me $415 on my own pocket too. I've seen the same mileage on the 2006 A6 sedans (certified) in my area for $25K - $27K, and I suppose this could be haggled to $24K - $25K. But when I bought my car in 2006, the 2006 A6 sedans sticker were $47K - $50K and my Avant was $55K (at least a $5000 difference).
The car sticker price brand new was $54,800 (not include doc. fees, registration, etc) ... and I'm getting a lower price total. I also did a very good deal on the lease, which I got during a memorial day promo in 2006.
Total Downpayment when I first leased it (including documents, registration) = $5,000
Paid 33 months ($583 x 33 months) = $19,239 (my montly payment is actually $600 with the $17 sale tax but I'll not include the taxes with this calculation)
Buyout Price (where I had 2 month payments left) = $26,500
I paid of part of the buyout and only loaned $10000, so total interest is = $1,261 (approx. only) for the next 60 months. I could pay off the $10,000 loan anytime with no penalty, which I plan to do within 3 years.
$5000 + $19,239 + $26,500 + $1261 = comes out to $52,000 total cash since I leased it in May 2006. Without the new brakes, registration, doc. fees, extended warranty (which totals to about $3,200), it's like buying the Avant brand new in 2006 at a sticker price of $48,800 and paying it for a number of years (or $6000 off the sticker price).
The new A6 Avant I saw park on the dealers lot (same as mine except for the grill and engine) is $61,000+ sticker price. Oh weee ... my wife thought it was a used 2006 Avant like ours, until she saw it was $61K.
Lastly, this car has been working 100% - no mechanical problems, no electrical problems, no tranny problems, nothing ... 0.00 repairs since I got it brand new. The only time it went to the shop was for change oil, change tires, and now the brakes (all normal wear and tear stuff).

I did the same thing with my 04 1.8TQS. I ended up getting the car and the certified warranty for the price of the buyout in the lease agreement. And since I knew how the car was treated, I didn't have a problem buying a four year old car with 50,000 miles on it.

Great to hear.
My lease on the A4 is up in 10 months and I'm still deciding what to do. My A6 I bought USED last year and it has already taken a huge hit in terms of depreciation!
