Default Mystery part!

Any body know what this part is and where it goes? I was replacing the air cabin filters in my 2006 A6 V6. After I removed the cover under the glove box (I did not remove the glove box itself), this was laying loose under filter box space. I could find only one schematic picture of it; it is unlabeled and does not show its location well or purpose, but at least seems to show its orientation. After replacing the filters, it tried to see if there was an obvious place where it might fit, but did not find one.

Any ideas?

Here is what is says in the Bentley Repair manual to R&R the pollen filters:

"Depending on vehicle equipment, a foam insulation element [this is the part in your pic] may be installed (glued) in area of cover on certain versions, remove it if necessary."

After you replace the filters, you reinstall this part.
